BBC CHIEF BACKS TOP SALARIES

"BBC director-general Mark Thompson was forced to defend the six-figure pay packets of his managers yesterday.
His comments came after crime author and former BBC governor PD James accused the broadcaster of paying “extraordinarily large salaries”.
Baroness James likened the BBC to a huge, ever-growing ship that was bobbing about aimlessly."
